Press Release Oct 2007 - Daisy Day Nursery use
ClockInOut Biometric Security
SECURITY AT THEIR FINGERTIPS
The safety and security off their children is one of the
biggest concerns of parents leaving their children at day nursery schools. Now,
Daisy Day Nursery in Llanishen, Cardiff has become the first nursery school in
South Wales to introduce
ClockInOut a biometric fingerprint recognition system as an
additional security measure.

Parents are required to register one of their fingerprints to represent a child
attending the nursery. This simple process, taking about 30 seconds, adds the
child to a computer data base. Then, when the parent drops off or collects their
child, they simply place their finger on a small optical pad mounted in the
reception area to log their child on or off the premises.
Daisy Day Nursery managing director Abeer Bafaqih, said, “ Parents need to feel
that their children are secure at all times when attending a nursery and we have
had a very positive response from them to the introduction of this new system.
For regular visitors, fingerprint recognition replaces signing in and out using
the conventional visitors book, so it is both faster and more convenient.
Because it is linked to our computer systems we can check at a glance who is
present in the building at any one time. This is an important boost to our
security systems as we
typically have over 60 chldren and staff on the premises at any one time. In
addition to the fingerprint system we also have coded access to all of the
childrens rooms.
Daisy Day Nursery provides around 50 nursery places for children, from babies to
5 year olds.
The fingerprint recognition system was installed by Penarth based
Computerisation which provides a full range of business software development and
support services for large organisations as well as SMEs.
A person’s 10 fingers all provide different, unique prints. The device marketed
by Computerisation uses a highly sophisticated technique which produces an
algorithm measuring the total print and is said to be unaffected by temporary
cuts, blemishes or dirt.
Computerisation’s Managing director Clive Morgan said “We are proud to be one of
the first software companies in South Wales to market this biometric technology,
which we predict will replace outmoded methods within the next few years or
sooner.
A Biometric finger reader guarantees identity and eliminates the need for
swipe cards, signature checks, pin numbers and passwords. Furthermore, pin
numbers, swipe cards and passwords can be forgotten, where as your finger is
always with you.
Whilst the technology has been with us for a little while – it’s the intelligent
software, which can be adapted for different applications, that makes it so
attractive.”
